Kelleth Old Hall,
CA10 3UG

A grade II listed manor house with glorious views south over the Howgills, Kelleth Old Hall is quirky, charming, friendly, close to the M6 and yet delightfully located in a world of its own. For those who love hills, wild flowers, antiques, books and good food. Pets and children welcome.

Are you a weary M6 traveller looking for a taste of old fashioned, overnight luxury? A coast-to-coast walker or cyclist who needs somewhere to dine, shower and breakfast? Or a family looking to holiday in Cumbria in an exceptional house and setting? Kelleth Old Hall is a grade II listed manor house dating from the early to mid 17th century. It is thought to have been built by Thomas Carleton of Appleby Castle; it is known to have had connections with the Whitehead family, including George Whitehead, founding member of the Quaker movement. Throughout its 300-year history, the house has been little changed. It is full of delightful architectural features - stone-mullioned windows, a huge fireplace, flagstone floors, deep sills, original panelled cupboards. The house has grandeur yet charm, scope yet intimacy. Its views, south-facing over the bronze-coloured, soft-topped Howgill Fells, are epic and unspoilt.

Inside Kelleth Old Hall, treasures abound: Georgian and Victorian furniture, 1930s china, 18th, 19th and 20th century prints and paintings. The guest bedroom features a huge canopied bed, a theatrical dressing table in blue organza, while the bathroom - with roll-topped Victorian bath - is overlooked by a Chinese ancestor portrait. (Separate shower unit available to use in 2nd bathroom, if preferred.)

Breakfast is a delicious feast of fresh fruit salad, porridge, cereals and cooked. Dinner can be provided. Packed lunches too. All ingredients locally sourced and fresh.
