Elder Grove is a family-run guest house offering you wonderful bed and breakfast in Ambleside. The accommodation is warm, welcoming and homely, making this Bed and Breakfast a fantastic location for your holiday or weekend break in the Lake District.

Your hosts Paul, Vicky & Aidan McDougall, who have lived in the Lake District all their lives and have a wealth of catering experience, and local knowledge.

Guests at Elder Grove often comment on the” friendly home from home, relaxing atmosphere where we try to give a little more than a traditional B & B . The house itself is a distinct, detached Lakeland building, built in the late 1800’s and still retaining many original features but with all the convenience of today’s contemporary living.
The breakfast is a must at Elder Grove we hope you will also enjoy a special start to the day , our guests often commenting “its the best breakfast we’ve ever had” “what a choice” “thank you for the lovely food” . Putting the ‘Breakfast’ into Bed and Breakfast is the priority to the start of every day ~ with your choice of cooked breakfast or lighter bites, locally sourced products and plenty of home made jams & marmalade’s, all prepared sourced by Paul then prepared and cooked fresh for you each morning giving everyone the perfect start to their day.

The house is over 4 floors and offers a combination of rooms all en-suite with bath and shower in the bathrooms with 2 rooms having King size double beds and 2 with zip and link beds offering a combination of twin or king size doubles, 2 standard double rooms a 2 spacious rooms one with a Victorian canopy double bed and the other with a modern four poster double bed & 2 single rooms descriptions and pictures can be found in the drop down boxes.

Set in the heart of the Lake District, Elder Grove has easy access to the town of Ambleside, with the center being only 5 minutes walk. Ambleside is ideal for access to other parts of the Lake District such as Keswick, Windermere and Coniston. Our parking now offers an electric car charging point.

Ambleside is easily reached from the M6.

FROM THE SOUTH, leave the M6 at Junction 36, follow the A590-591 towards Kendal, Windermere and onto Ambleside, Enter the towns one way system opposite the BP filling station, keeping in the right hand lane travel in a complete circle back onto Lake Road, keeping in the right hand lane Elder Grove is on the last house on the right just before the junction and the filling station (on the left).

FROM THE NORTH , leave the M6 at junction 40 (Penrith)follow the signs for Keswick (A66) and Ambleside (A591). To avoid traveling through Keswick turn off at Threlkeld, traveling through St John’s in the Vale, joining the A591 at Thirlspot. Proceed through the town center of Ambleside towards Windermere. Elder Grove is on your right hand side, just before the turning to Coniston and Langdale and before the filling station on the left.

Traveling by Train and Bus
The nearest railway station is in Windermere, and the main line station is Oxenholme. From the railway station there is a bus service running into Ambleside and from Easter to October buses are every 20 minutes, there are also taxi’s available and a cycle hire shop. The main bus stop in Ambleside is in Kings Street, less than 5 minutes walk from Elder Grove. There are bicycle hire shops in Ambleside; the nearest car hire is in Kendal.
